Pantone, a New Jersey company that standardizes color, makes it possible for a graphic designer in say, California, to dictate exact colors to a printer in Idaho. Their broad repertoire of standardized colors in a variety of categories takes the guess work out of knowing that the color you order is the color you will get. From fabrics to printed materials, there are several families of color. When we design a print project, we can assign a particular Pantone color within our digital file, and be assured the final printed piece will match perfectly.

Each year Pantone picks a “color of the year”. Their choice is a result of social, environmental, and political issues at the time and the resulting color that would represent those factors best.

This year’s color is Greenery #2278-CP (for printed materials)
Pantone Greenery

Pantone explains it on their website (Pantone.com) like this: “Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”

Once the color of the year is designated, you can expect to see this color appearing in many products, interior design and certainly in graphic design solutions. Perhaps you would like to include it in your promotional materials, packaging, or products?

So this year’s Color of the Year evokes hope. May 2017 be a year with great hope. We’ve heard Keurig is coming out with a coffee maker in this color “Greenery”, and that the color is already popping up in furniture and interior design products. How much it catches on is yet to be determined, but indeed using these colors would freshen up your marketing materials as well. Either way, now that you know a little bit more about the Pantone color system, you’re ready to design your marketing materials, and SDA Creative is more than happy to  help you!
